I Am Crazy (I Think), Or, The A to Z Blogging Challenge

I think I signed up for the challenge while only partly conscious, or maybe I was sleep-surfing-the-net that day. Who knows. The thing is, I signed up for the A to Z Blogging Challenge coming up this April and going on all month long, the goal being to blog EVERYDAY (except Sundays) with the alphabet letters as blog post prompt.

Funnily enough, it reminds me of this slightly embarrasing experience I had when I was 8. There was a school SINGING competition (another proof of my insanity. Didn't I tell you I can't sing to save my life? Well, apparently, I made an attempt years ago, and luckily survived to tell the story. I should totally repress this memory.) Let me say that again: A school singing competition. The whole school was out there to watch me sing. Yikes!

Ahem. Back to the story: I was in second grade, and somehow my teacher convinced me to represent the class. I still remember the white dress my mom made me wear, with matching white tights and shoes (what was with the all-white ensemble?? *scratches head*). My dad coached and helped me practice at home. The song was...The Alphabet Song. It goes something like this:

A--You're adorable
B--You're so beautiful
C--You're so cute and full of charm
D--You're a darling
E--You're exciting
F--You're the feather in my arms (I have no clue what that means. LOL! ;D )
G--You're so good to me
H--You're so heavenly
I-- You're the one I idolize
J--We're like Jack and Jill
K--You're so kissable
L--Is the love light in your eyes
M, N, O, P--I could go on all day
Q, R, S, T -- Alphabetically speaking, you're okay
U-- Make my life complete
V-- Means you're very sweet
W, X, Y, Z --It's fun to wander through the alphabet with you, to tell you what you mean to me.

~end~

Take note, I jotted this down from memory, so I may have messed up some of the actual words. I can't remember who wrote the song, or where it came from. Anyway, with the blogfest challenge coming up real soon, I think I'm going to get this song stuck in my head--what can I say, I need inspiration! Hee!

Oh, and yeah, I won third place in that competition. *wink*

So, wish me luck. We'll see how well I survive this round. Anybody else doing the challenge? Are you all ready to go, or still shuffling your feet toward the door?

Poetry Schmoetry And Chapter 6 of "Skeleton Key" Blogvel

Hello Monday!

First order of business we have today: the Round Robin Blogvel (blog novel) Skeleton Key Chapter 6 by the infamous Jenny Phresh of The Party Pony is up! If you want to follow the progress of this blogvel making its rounds among notable bloggers (who were crazy enough to sign up, and amazing enough to make it work), go to the Table of Contents to read the previous chapters.

Up next is the Poetry Schmoetry Blogfest hosted by the beautiful Shelly Brown of Writing with Shelly. All I'm supposed to do is post a poem of my own making, though Shelly is flexible as to what constitutes a poem (no poem snubbing here!). So if your inner poet is dying to come out, join the fun! There are also fabulous prizes and whatnot.

Here is my offering for the blogfest. Disclaimer: I'm not a poet. But I try anyway. ;)

Hello is not enough.
A heart unwoven,
its stitches torn asunder.
Tiny daggers driven into its core.
Unheard weeping,
Quiet sighing,
secrets folding in,
tucked out of sight.

Hello is not enough.

It's All Fun and Games Blogfest! Plus the Round Robin Blogvel Continues...

Hello Monday!

First off, Chapter 2 of the Round Robin Blogvel is up! Check it out at A.M. Supinger's blog. Chapter 1 can be found here.

Alex J. Cavanaugh is hosting a blogfest--this time about games that we enjoy. The rule? List 3 of your most favorite games and say why. This is probably where you'll see the geeky side of me. =)

So here we go:

1. CROSSWORD PUZZLES

View Image
*Cue nerd alert sirens.... Okay, I'm not a pro and I don't have bragging rights such as I can finish the New York Times crossword puzzle in under a minute. Ah, no. Since I didn't grow up here in the great U.S. of A., a lot of the pop culture references get lost on me. But I still try. I'm a sucker for puzzles. I love figuring things out, and I love it even more when things come together and I have that  'aha' moment. So in our household, whenever there are furniture or toys needing assembly, yep I'm the go-to guy...er, woman (psst, I have a power drill. Oh yeah!).

2. PIT

Pit is a fast-paced card game where you trade commodities with the other players to "corner" the market. There's a bull and a bear mixed in to up the challenge. The goal is to get all of your cards to match. My family loves this game. We yell and scream and trade like crazy, plus I actually learned how to bluff whenever I get the Bear card (you lose points when you have it in possession at the end of the game). The first one to have a matching suit (of nine cards) gets to ring the bell and wins.

3. LEGO STAR WARS Wii

I have a 3-year-old who's obsessed with Star Wars. On his birthday, he got the Lego Star Wars Wii game, and what was I supposed to do when he begged me one lazy afternoon to play with him (and the book I was reading at that time was chock full of boring expositions)? So we played. Do you know that the Jedis can do really cool lightsaber moves? And they can jump really high? Do you know that after every chapter you're given a True Jedi rating (for not dying so much during the game)? Do you know there are cheat codes you can find in the Internet if you know where to look, or field guides when you're stuck in a particular episode?

LucasArts Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga Nintendo WiiYeah. One day, the game mysteriously disappeared. My boy thinks Darth Vader took it so we wouldn't "get" him (we were in Epidode VI the last time we played). My theory is that someone in the household hid it so our normal life of chores can resume. But I like my son's explanation better.
There you have it. Check out the blogfest and what cool games people love to play by clicking the picture below. Enjoy!
