It's easy to feel we're never good enough. It's easier to beat ourselves up instead of patting ourselves in the back. For all of you going through hard times in your life--whether it's with your writing, your personal life, your career, whatever--I want you to know that we all have individual worth. We all have something special inside of us, something that no one else can own because it is ours and ours alone.

When life kicks you down in the gutters, when you think no one cares, look inside you. You care. We all do.

My writer friend Jen was going through a writing funk yesterday and I just really, really wanted her to know that she is NOT inadequate. So I promised her a song, and here it is. For her, for me, for you...

Morgan said...: I agree, and by being our own worst critic we create unwanted stress which is never fun. I've been more stressed out this week than usual (and beating myself up for it) so it was great to be reminded that you don't need to be so hard on yourself.

Okay, so I'm about to admit something very embarrassing--I love Mily Cyrus's "The Climb." I'm not a huge fan of her, but the lyrics to that song are so incredibly inspiring. Sometimes, I think we all get a little discouraged, because all we can think about is the end goal (getting published), but really, the road we take to get there (the climb, if you will) is pretty amazing (and important). :o) The harder we struggle with the climb, the more awesome it'll be when we reach the top!; July 21, 2011 at 7:15 AM

Precy Larkins said...: I'm glad you enjoyed this song. I love Anna Nalick. She's an incredible songwriter and singer. She wrote this song for a friend who was having realtionship issues. The message is simply this: We all have worth, and we don't need someone (in Anna's friend's case, the jerk boyfriend) to validate us. We've only begun to shine, and there is more to come.

Angela, I love the song "The Climb" too. It does have an inspiring message.

Jen, you are welcome. I play this song over and over for me...it's good to know there are still many wonderful possibilities waiting for us. That we are capable of wonderful things.
